Future of Work

JUNE 12, 2011

This is the May/June 2011 issue of our free monthly newsletter, Future of Work Agenda. Much of our time did focus on history: the Churchill War Rooms, Windsor Castle, the Halls of Parliament, attending Evensong at Westminster Abbey (in the same space where a little wedding took place in late April), a walking tour of Oxford, and a Shakespeare play at the reconstructed Globe Theater—to say nothing of also visiting Edinburgh Castle and walking a bit of the Old Course at St.

I'm well aware that my struggles with math throughout my lifetime began with a 3rd grade teacher who was convinced that girls couldn't work with numbers. Conversation Matters

MAY 3, 2011

Over the years, as I have designed such meetings, I have come to rely on seven principles that work together to make the most of collective knowledge in conference settings as well as in-house meetings. Knowledge workers attending a meeting or conference need to get connected to each other before they try to construct new ideas together ( Peter Block ). When a group has come together many times, the period of connecting can be brief, but not neglected altogether.

The recession only accelerated this process as companies and individuals looked to reduce travel costs by using video chats, instant messaging and other social media tools to fuel collaborative work across space and time.

You can do all the change management and attend all the conference break-out sessions you want, but you won't get adoption until you deliver transparency.
