how to disagree with your boss in a meeting

Ask a Manager

A reader writes: I have a question about respectfully disagreeing with your boss in meetings. My boss is director of communications for the hospital, but I serve as the spokesperson for media during crises. When something happens, all the leaders, including my boss and me, will meet to make a plan of action. It’s not often I disagree with my boss, but sometimes I do. I am not so conceited that I think I am always right, but I think it is valuable for my senior leaders to know that there are other approaches to crisis communications. Measure Training Effectiveness by Results, Not Hours

HR Bartender

Years ago, I attended a training session where the instructor said that he knew participants we’re “getting it” because they started asking questions. It made sense to me. Whether the questions happen during the actual training or after the session, questions can be an informal gauge of training interest. Of course, that’s not the only training metric or measurement. It is possible to do both.

refusing a job duty on ethical grounds, company wants me to show them another employer’s offer letter, and more

Ask a Manager

It’s five answers to five questions. Here we go…. 1. Company wants me to show them another employer’s offer letter. Company A made me an offer. Company B asked me to let them know if I receive any offers while they are waiting on the management team to make a final decision. emailed Company B and told them that Company A made me an offer. Now Company B is asking to see my offer letter. (I didn’t share the amount with them, so they’re not looking for verification of anything I told them.). Is that normal? It makes me really uneasy to forward a copy of my offer. No, it’s not normal. Please help!

Notes to HR Tech Vendors #7 – Stop It Already With All These Titles!

The Tim Sackett Project

I’ve done a few presentations titled something like, “HR Tech Buyers Guide”, “How to Buy HR Tech”, etc. The presentation is designed for HR and TA practitioners to help them become better buyers of HR Tech. To understand the crap that HR and TA Tech vendors do and say to get you to buy stuff you might not need, want, or will use. The interesting thing about these presentations is that half the audience turns out to be the actual vendors themselves wanting to hear what it is I’m telling the real HR and TA leaders! It’s smart for the vendors. Enjoy!

Is Paying Candidates to Apply a Good Idea?
