In 1964, in a farsighted Harvard Business Review article entitled, “Democracy Is Inevitable,” Warren Bennis and Philip Slater argued that organizational democracy and more freedom would be the trend in both the workplace and in the world because it is the most efficient system in times of unrelenting change. They were right. Today, we live in a time defined by unprecedented demands for participation, collaboration , and inclusion.
Yes, I’ll admit it. I enjoy playing Pokemon GO. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the game. Pokemon GO is an augmented reality game released in 2016. The game involves locating and catching ‘creatures’ (aka Pokemon). Once you catch them, then you use them in battles, etc. The game was awarded the Guinness World Record for most revenue generated by a mobile game and hundreds of millions of people play the game globally.

In my role here at Sirenum, I speak to temporary staffing agencies across the UK and Continental Europe every day. I ask them about their operational issues, and almost without exception, they trot out the issue of it being a candidate’s market. They say that particularly in the hourly temping market, there is a real. The post The Myth of the Lack of Candidates appeared first on Sirenum.

Quoting Ralph Waldo Emerson, "Life is a journey, not a destination," suggests that life is more about the individual experiences than the result. The same can be said about the candidate journey and the hiring process. Gone are the days when companies could automate three to five page paper employment applications and have candidates jump through many hoops.

Few things are predictable in business. Shop owners and proprietors can’t be sure whether a shipment of goods will arrive on time before a big sale, whether revenues will meet the projected goal by year’s end, or if employees will be available to work on a moment’s notice due to a last-minute scheduling change. For large and small enterprises, the last scenario – irregular or unstable shift scheduling – can be a major cause of anxiety for both managers and workers.

You know how important the customer experience is to you personally, and to your business: Research shows it's a major competitive differentiator. A good customer experience attracts loyal, repeat customers—for instance, I always buy Lucky Brand Jeans because I have never had a bad experience with them (and my jeans always fit). A bad customer experience is just bad for business and customers have less and less tolerance for it.

Did you know that the United States is the only developed nation that offers zero federally mandated paid parental leave? Forget for a moment that this is a critical time for both parents to bond with their child, paid parental leave is also in the best interests of your company. I just had a baby, and trust me when I tell you that there is no way new parents can perform at anywhere near their peak when they wake up every three hours to feed an infant the night before.
Is time theft an issue for your company? If it was, how would you know? If you think that employee theft only happens in the office supply cabinet, think again. Every day, employees across the country take part in time clock fraud—whether inadvertently or intentionally. And when they do, employers are left paying them for unworked hours. As many as 75% of companies have time “stolen” from under their noses, according to an American Payroll Association (APA) study.
Modern go-to-market teams know it takes more than one email to break through the noise. Multiple touchpoints means more ways to get your pitch right — and, potentially, more ways to be wrong. The good news? Once you know how to write compelling, one-off emails to entice prospective customers, you can easily do the same across a short sequence of emails.

This might sound like a strange comment coming from a training consultant, but all performance problems are not solved with training. It’s true. When companies are faced with performance challenges, they need to figure out what the challenge is and address it. The question becomes “What’s the right way to do it?”. At this year’s Association for Talent Development (ATD) International Conference and Expo , I had the opportunity to participate in a two-day certificate program on Improving Human Per
If you’re a supervisor or manager, you probably know how much more productive your team is when you make the effort to recognize each person’s contribution. In order to take employee recognition to the next level, however, and establish a company-wide system of rewards, you’ll need to be able to present the investment to your CEO or CFO in terms of the financial bottom line.
As companies look for ways to revitalize the employee performance review process, workplace coaching has become a popular topic. But what exactly is workplace coaching, and what does effective coaching look like? Teaching might actually be a better word to describe the process than coaching. When you imagine a coach, you probably picture someone shouting instructions from the sideline, doing much more talking than listening.
