In 2016, California approved a statute to increase the minimum wage yearly starting in 2017. This Senate Bill (SB) planned for the hourly rate to reach $15 in 2023, with inflation adjustments up to a maximum of 3.5%. This period has now passed and the California minimum wage rate is at $15.50. However, the cost of living has also increased, and a $15.50 hourly rate doesn’t allow people to cover all of their expenses.
