What I Learned When I Had to Miss Star Wars
Evil HR Lady
JANUARY 5, 2016
I had tickets to see Star Wars last night. I’ve had these tickets since November 9th. I’m not exactly a super fan (read: I don’t own any light sabers and my hair is too short to do the Princess Leia buns), but I do thoroughly enjoy the first three movies. The second set? Meh.) So, I was very excited to go. Then my daughter got hit by a tram. Luckily, it was pulling into a stop and so wasn’t going fast and she only ended up with two badly sprained ankles and a trip to the emergency room. So, while my friends were enjoying Star Wars, I was in the emergency room.

no, it’s not ever “impossible” to fire people
Ask a Manager
JANUARY 5, 2016
Periodically I hear someone complain about a coworker or an employee and say “but it’s impossible to fire anyone here, so we’re stuck.” ” It’s not true. No sane organization truly forbids firing people. At worst, it usually means “we have lots of hoops to jump through in order to fire someone, but it can be done.”. Even in the federal government and even in unionized workplaces — both of which people are fond of saying make it impossible to fire people — you can fire people. And as a manager, you must be willing to put in the time. firing
