Start date of the NLRB’s joint-employer rule is delayed again

The rule, which had been set to take effect Feb. 26, was pushed back two weeks, to March 11. A Texas federal judge delayed the start date after holding a hearing for a lawsuit challenging the rule, which was filed by business groups including the US Chamber of Commerce.

And as if all that juggling wasn’t enough, 45% took on more duties without a promotion or pay raise, according to a HR Brew survey. Professional and business services employees are thinking twice before quitting

Corporate employees are quitting less. The latest Job Openings and Labor Turnover Summary (JOLTS) from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, released on June 4 , showed that the total number of quits in April was 3.5 million, hardly changed from 3.4 million in March, and the quit rate for all industries remained at 2.2% for the sixth consecutive month. The professional and business services industry, in particular, saw the biggest monthly decline, down 131,000, or 19%, to 560,000 in April.

Following a slew of worrying labor market data published earlier this summer, today’s jobs report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics is like a breath of fresh air. US employers added 254,000 jobs in September, a 95,000 increase from August, marking the largest month-over-month jump since last December when 108,000 more jobs were added. Companies also added more jobs than initially reported in July and August, revising the numbers to 144,000 and 159,000 respectively.
