The COVID-19 pandemic has pushed businesses to make a rapid switch from face-to-face workplaces to remote work environments. . While working from home does have advantages, it’s not all positive. Some employees are experiencing burnout and fatigue as the lines between home and work life are now blurred. Studies suggest working or studying remotely can have psychological challenges in both the short and long term.
People hate meetings. This is not earth-shattering news. Many of the complaints are legit: meetings are unfocused, too long, or unnecessary. Some of the complaints are humorous (but still true.) One of the lesser-mentioned reasons that merits consideration is meeting purpose. People get frustrated with meetings because they are unclear about expectations surrounding the the reason for the meeting.
A surprising consequence of the pandemic has been employee attrition. For some individuals, personal and professional stressors from the pandemic caused them to reconsider priorities, resulting in these professionals leaving the workforce. For others, the past year helped them pinpoint what they truly wanted from their careers and jobs, driving them to search for the career development opportunities that they weren’t getting from their employers.
One of my favorite HR and “future of work” articles in recent memory is titled 21 HR Jobs of the Future. It was written by Jeanne Meister and Robert Brown and published last year by the Harvard Business Review.
